Celebrating Paris!

The full moon over the Seine
Hello, all! I am back from my trip to Paris and I had an amazing trip, to put it mildly. I can now understand why Paris has a reputation as such a special place. To say it is a beautiful city is an understatement!

I am still working on getting back to reality and my brain doesn't seem capable of stringing words together for a proper post at the moment, so I thought I would just share some of my favorite pictures from the trip. I took so many I'm surprised my phone didn't explode. But, in addition to the one above, here are a few that bring back some of my most cherished memories of my week in the City of Light.

The stately and spectacular Arc de Triomphe:

The courtyard of the Louvre, which my niece and I stumbled upon through a back entrance. The museum was closed and, with a lone violinist playing in the background, the place felt like the setting of a fairy tale.

The cafe in St. Germain where I had a yummy lunch and enjoyed champagne cocktails as we sat outside and people-watched.

Inside the Musee D'Orsay:

The stunningly beautiful Sacre Coeur church lit up in the night sky. The church was only a five minute walk from the loft where we stayed in Montmartre.

Of course, I can't celebrate a trip to Paris without a picture of the Eiffel Tower. :)

This post is my entry for this week's Celebrate the Small Things Hop. The hop is hosted by my buddy Lexa Cain and co-hosted by L.G Keltner at Writing Off the Edge and Tonja Drecker at Kidbits. Visit Lexa's blog here to find out how join in the hop yourself and to see the list of participants.

I'm looking forward to catching up in blogland today and jumping back in in a big way next week when I will be co-hosting the IWSG. Happy weekend, all!

  1. Hi Julie - I hadn't realised you'd been over here (well Paris here!) - how wonderful ... it looks like you saw and visited some amazing places ... the Louvre must have been closed in case of flooding (early June) ... and perhaps they just hadn't got themselves back to being organised - such a pity.

    But bet you had a wonderful time .. and with lots of stories to tell from that loft in Montmartre ... looking forward to seeing more photos, reading more about the trip etc ...

    sounds just amazing ... cheers Hilary

  4. @Hilary, oh, the Louvre was just closed for the evening, we did get to go another day! Fortunately the flooding problems were all over when we were there. We really did have a fantastic time. Thanks!

    @Alex, isn't it? So beautiful!

    @Lori, those are my two favorite pics. Thank you!

  9. The pics are fabulous and Paris looks exquisite! No wonder Parisians are so proud of their city and way of life -- sophisticated, elegant, and artistic. Thanks so much for sharing! Have a wonderful weekend. :)

  10. No doubt, You've gotta be celebrating, and still pinching yourself in disbelief over your amazing trip, but I wouldn't call it a "small thing" to celebrate. I mean, come on! You went to PARIS, girl! That is soooooo awesome. I'll be looking forward to hearing (and seeing) more about it. I hope you got to eat lots of good food.

  13. Nice photos, Julie! My favorite is the one of the church. And I absolutely love the idea of the lone violinist making that one moment feel like a fairytale. :)

  16. It's my favourite city so had to check your post! Montmartre is a neat place to stay, and we enjoyed our walkabout there. We stayed in the Marais. Glad you had a good time and hope you had lots of good food too. I think the wine is better there - did you see the small vineyard in Montmartre?

  20. @Lexa, those three words describe the city perfectly. Thanks and I hope you are enjoying your weekend as well.

    @Susan, I did and maybe a little too much as now my pants are tight! LOL oh well. :D

    @Heather, thanks!! I had fun but I'm glad to be back to normal life too.

    @Kate, I hope you can visit again someday. Thanks so much.

    @Madeline, I think that violinist is my favorite memory of the whole trip. It was like we'd wandered into another time. Just beautiful and surreal too.

    @Janie, LOL, thank you!

    @Birgit, yes, I feel just the same way. And you were right about people being friendly, the people we encountered were delightful. There were a few rude folks but no more than you can encounter anywhere.

    @DG, I agree that the wine is better! The funny thing is I don't usually even care for wine but in Paris is just seemed different. But I didn't know there was a vineyard right in Montmartre. Something to look for on another trip. :)

    @TF, I hope you do, I'm sure you will love it too. I don't see how anyone wouldn't be enchanted by it.

    @Tamara, we really did, thanks.

    @T, yeah, it's a shame LOL but it's good to be home too. :)

  23. Lucky you! Paris is such a beautiful city. I went there once when I was a kid, but I don't think I appreciated it as much as I would now that I'm older. Based on what I read about it and all the pictures I've seen, I can understand why so many people go there for vacations and to write (like Hemingway).
