IWSG & Come Back by Melissa Maygrove

Happy May, all! Today is the monthly meeting of the Insecure Writer's Support Group, hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh.

For once I am not feeling all that insecure and instead I'm feeling more excited than anything else. This weekend I will be attending the Ohioana Book Festival and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm nowhere near as nervous about the public speaking aspect of it as I was back in my March IWSG post and I think a big reason for that is all the great support I received from this group. So thanks to all of you for that! I also have to give a special shout-out to the awesome Liz Blocker who took the time to email me some wonderful public speaking tips she learned as a drama student in college.

I don't think I'll be blogging for the rest of May as I'm going to burrow down in my writing cave before taking a trip to Martha's Vineyard later in the month. I'm going to be part of "Vineyard Writers Day" there at Edgartown Books and I'm as excited for that as I am about the book festival this weekend. So I hope by the time the June IWSG rolls around I will be able to share that I not only survived my public speaking appearances but also had fun at them. :D

Before I sign off for the month I want to share the news about Come Back, the debut novel from Melissa Maygrove. Yay, Melissa! Come Back will be released on Monday, May 12 and I have no doubt that it will be a wonderful read. If you don't already follow Melissa, you are missing out on one of the nicest bloggers out there.

Here is the info on Melissa's book and the giveaway she is hosting as part of the big release party.

Gabe is an average fifteen-year-old goblin. He’s in the marching band, breezes through calculus, and gets picked on daily by the other kids at school, especially the ogres. It’s against all beastly rules, but there’s just something about her.

When a prank goes wrong, Gabe is forced to join the football team as punishment – but finds a way to make it work. Soon the whole school is getting in on the fad of mingling with other species. Too bad the adults have to step in and ruin things by threatening to destroy the school and split up Broken Branch Falls. And Gabe is their scapegoat. With help from friends, old and new, Gabe sets out on a quest for the Book of Ages, which holds the laws of all beastkind and hopefully the key to saving Broken Branch Falls. And now it's River's turn:

Blurb:

Magic is real. So is betrayal.

David enters the Fire Kingdom and events shift from bad to worse. He learns a shocking truth about the dragons, a truth destined to block his efforts to retrieve the lost magic of Shaylar from the ruling Council.  After a cave-in and injuries force a rescue, David finds himself more isolated than before as personal concerns scatter his trusted advisors and the wizard who led him there abandons him.

The head of the dragon Council negotiates separate deals with both David and his father, sowing further discord between them. David's close friend, Lothan, disappears into the caves and doesn't return. A group of dissidents kidnap Wilks, the child empath David is sworn to protect. With no options left, he accepts the Council's demands to help them in their centuries-old conflict, risking a war which might kill them all.

Even if David manages to win, there's no guarantee the dragons will let him leave the region alive. They don't want the Kingdom of Shaylar to rise again and will stop at nothing to see it remain a pile of dust.

SNIP, SNIP REVENGE by Medeia Sharif

I'm still winding down from the craziness of April and the A-Z Challenge, so I'm happy to be able to turn the blog over to Medeia Sharif today and help spread the word about her newest novel, SNIP, SNIP REVENGE. Isn't that a great title?

Here's everything you need to know about the book:

SNIP, SNIP REVENGE by Medeia Sharif
YA Contemporary, Evernight Teen
Release Date April 25, 2014

Beautiful, confident Tabby Karim has plans for the winter: nab a role in her school’s dramatic production, make the new boy Michael hers, and keep bigoted Heather—with her relentless Ay-rab comments—at bay. When a teacher’s lie and her father’s hastiness rob her of her beautiful hair, her dreams are dashed. The fastest barber in Miami Beach has made her look practically bald.

With all her pretty hair gone, Tabby doesn’t believe she fits the feminine role she’s auditioning for. Michael is still interested in her, but he’s playing it cool. Heather has taken to bullying her online, which is easier to do with Tabby’s ugly haircut. Tabby spearheads Operation Revenge, which proves satisfying until all of her problems deepen. After messing up, she sets to make things right.

Author Bio
I’m a Kurdish-American author who was born in New York City, and I presently call Miami my home. I received my master’s degree in psychology from Florida Atlantic University. After becoming a voracious reader in high school and a relentless writer dabbling in many genres in college, I found my niche writing for young people. Today I'm a MG and YA writer published through various presses. In addition to being a writer, I'm a middle school English teacher. My memberships include Mensa, ALAN, and SCBWI.
