Thunderclap, Ice Fest, & a Goodreads Giveaway

Hello, all! I hope your week is going well so far. Last week was a busy one for me as I took my mom to her last round (yay!) of chemotherapy. She is feeling great, but now all we can do is wait to see the results of her PET scan in February and hope that the cancer is gone. These past six months have certainly been emotional for my family and we are all so glad to have them in the past.

Bookfest @ IceFest
The end of last week was fun though as I participated in BookFest at IceFest in Hamilton, Ohio on Saturday with my bookfest buddy Tara Tyler. We had such a good time! I'm always amazed how much I enjoy these fests considering how introverted I am, but I have gotten to the point where I really enjoy the interactions. It was great to meet not only readers but also local authors and I made some great new friendships. I also learned about some other regional groups and fests that I intend to explore, so I'm excited about that. And last but not least I sold a few books so all in all it was a very successful day.

If you haven't been to any book festivals or conventions and have the opportunity to go to one I highly recommend doing it. :)

Last week I mentioned my plan to shamelessly beg for support for my Thunderclap campaign that I started for the release of Polar Day on February 5. I'm more than a week late but am now here to beg! I need 100 supporters in order for my little message to go out so if you are able to throw some support my way I would be so grateful! And I will gladly return the favor at any time. Just click on the widget to support the campaign:

Finally, I have started a Polar Day giveaway on Goodreads and am giving out 3 signed copies of the book. The giveaway is active in the US and UK, Canada, and Australia. Click below if you are interested!

  12. You have been busy! I've got my toes crossed for your mom, and way to go you! I need to get out and be social like you, but well, family first. I keep thinking I should have waited a few more years to launch my career. =)

  17. Woo hoo on the new book. How fun that you and Tara get to hang out. It is fun to meet other local writers. I learned a ton from meeting and talking to fellow writers around me.

  18. Glad to hear your mom's been feeling great! Will think some positive thoughts for her come February...

And how exciting about BookFest! I remember seeing you post about this on Twitter. As a fellow introvert, I can just imagine how nerve-wracking this kind of thing would be, so that's great how it went so well for you! :)

  20. I signed on for the Thunderclap but it didn't add another number to your supporters. O_o Hopefully I did it right, I'll retweet your announcement either way.

And I hope your mom's cancer stays fully in remission and never comes back again ever.

  23. I'm so glad your mom is done with her treatments and is feeling well. I'm hoping you guys get good news with the PET scan next month. It looks like your Thunderclap campaign is already almost halfway to the goal-that's great! I appreciate your candor about your struggles as an introvert having to deal with all the social stuff that comes along with being a published author. As an introvert myself, it's good to know that it can be done and some fun can even be had along the way. I have terrible social anxiety (something that Amy and Chris can attest to- when I met them and Andy, I could barely carry on an intelligent conversation). I've even used it as an excuse not to write, telling myself that I couldn't handle all the social networking, etc, that being published would require anyway. I realize now that it's just an excuse, and I won't let fear keep me from my dream. So, thanks for being an inspiration and helping me see that even us nerdy folks (I consider "nerdy" a compliment, btw) can conquer our fears and put ourselves out there without having a meltdown. I'm really excited to read to read Polar Day. :)

  24. So glad things are smoothing out for you. The Thunderclap idea is fascinating, and I've signed up. Maybe this year if my third book comes out I can sneak over to Ohio for some book appearances, it's not that far away!

  25. Love the photo and so happy about your mom. Glad you've been able to be there for her. But take care of yourself, too.

  26. I have done events like that--but it's not nearly as fun alone as when you participate with a friend, believe me!
