I'm excited to be hosting Susan Oloier and Rebecca Green Gasper today as part of their Speak Out Against... Book Tour. Thanks for being here, Susan and Rebecca!
For their post, Susan and Rebecca created music playlists for the characters in their novels Break From You and Outcast. As I have posted before, I am a music nut and love listening to music of all kinds, so this was a fun topic for me. I think music can be a great way to get to know people better, and I'm sure the same principle can apply to characters. So, here are the musical playlists for the people who populate the worlds of these great books.
Also, Susan and Rebecca are holding a giveaway as part of the blog tour. If you'd like to enter to win a copy of Outcast or Break From You, there's an entry form at the bottom of this post.
Now on to the playlists.

Break from You by Rebecca Green Gasper
Love shouldn’t hurt this much…Brooke Myers wants to believe she has it all: the perfect guy, the perfect relationship, the perfect life. She wants to believe it so much that she's willing to overlook the fear, the isolation, and the pain her boyfriend has caused her. She knows it isn't right but tells herself that love isn't always easy. However, when a fire destroys the restaurant during homecoming dinner, she forms an instant bond with the boy who saves her, one her boyfriend wouldn’t like. With the pain of a concussion reminding her of how bad things can get, she is forced to re-evaluate the relationship she has with her boyfriend and face the ghosts that haunt her. Brooke once believed love was all it took…but is it enough? Is it truly love when you've lost yourself in it?

Sounds like a great read. I have a 17-year-old daughter. Hmmm.. Christmas?
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting book tour.
ReplyDeleteLove the playlist, J! :-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Susan and Rebecca. Great playlist! I recognize many of those songs. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Susan and Rebecca! I'm really interested in the playlist, as I don't listen to music while I write and am out of touch with more recent songs...feeling old. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie, for hosting us today! And thank you for supporting the Speak Out Against tour.
ReplyDeleteBet that helped make the characters come to life.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome playlist! I actually know every song listed :D
ReplyDeleteThose sound like great reads. Congrats to the authors.
ReplyDeleteI love the playlist! Congrats to Susan and Rebecca!
ReplyDeleteFun! I see people do playlists for their characters all the time. I gotta try that one of these days.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats ladies!
Thanks so much, Julie, for inviting us to your blog today. It was great fun. And thank you to everyone who visited and left a comment.
ReplyDeleteWhat great songs! Cooper sounds like my kind of music listener! LOL. The books sound great. Congrats to both ladies. Wishing you big sales!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie - I've never seen this idea before .. but not being musical I sort of lose the plot!
ReplyDeleteHowever I do hope the books do well - it's a great theme to promote so that more understanding is out there ..
Cheers Hilary
Thank you all for coming by! Susan and Rebecca, you are most welcome, it was fun to be part of your tour!
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting idea for a book tour!
ReplyDeleteI really liked Brookes playlist. Some of the others I hadn't even heard of. I'm not sure what that says about me!
Great playlist, and fun idea for a book tour!
ReplyDeleteJulie
I have a good insight into these characters just by seeing the playlists! Good job, ladies :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a very fun and unique book tour. Great job, Julie.
ReplyDeleteI see that you finished NaNo. CONGRATULATIONS!
Thanks so much, too, for your support of my publication.
Be well.
xoRobyn
Both of these books sound super.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of creating a playlist for the characters is an interesting one. Unfortunately, if I did that, not that many people would relate. After all, how many people know Mitch Miller songs? (Just kidding.)
Thanks for coming by to support the book tour Rebecca, Julie, and Carol!
ReplyDelete@Robyn, thanks! I'm really excited about my NaNo project, it was fun. Congrats again on your book!
@Susan, LOL, I think I have the same problem with playlists but it would be fun to try.
This is such a fun and creative way to approach talking about the characters. Thank you for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteJulie, I just purchased Rebecca's book. However, Susan's book doesn't list on my Kindle. Tried several times. I want to stick with this as Susan's a follower and I make every effort to support them. If you find out what the problem is, please e-mail me: kittiehoward@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI've got a lot of respect for the work involved to put this playlist together. Great job!
And, thank you, sweet lady, for your support. I should have a link up this weekend. Rings is in South Africa. Rachel's working her magic. I'm excited about getting Rings out of the delivery room!
Found the problem: It's Oloier, not oler. Purchasing it now.
ReplyDelete@Emilyann, I totally agree. Thanks for coming by!
ReplyDelete@Kittie, go glad you found Susan's book. And congratulations again on Rings!
