IWSG and Congratulations to L. Diane Wolfe!

I'm really excited to be one of Alex's co-hosts, along with Stephen Tremp, for this month's meeting of the Insecure Writer's Support Group! This is the first time I've ever helped host an event like this, and I can't think of a better way to jump into hosting than by helping out with the IWSG.

Right after I told Alex I would be a co-host for the February meeting, I learned that my debut novel Polar Night would be officially published on February 7. That's right, tomorrow!

In spite of the fact that I am thrilled beyond words that my novel will now be out in the world, it also gives me plenty to be insecure about. I'm afraid that no one will like the book. I'm afraid that no one will even read the book. I'm insecure about getting bad reviews or getting no reviews at all. Basically I'm a nervous wreck about the whole situation.

But, I am going to do my best to shove all those insecurities aside and, for once in my life, simply enjoy what is. No matter what else does or doesn't happen, one thing will still be true. I published a novel! :)

Thanks to Alex for having me as his co-host today!

I also want to congratulate L. Diane Wolfe on the release of her new book How to Publish and Promote Your Book Now! This sounds like just the book for me as I start the process of promoting my book. Here is all the info on this great new resource:

  1. Tomorrow is your big day! There will always be those who don't like what we write, but those who do always outweigh them.
    Thanks for co-hosting this month.
    And congratulations to Diane!

  2. Julie, I am so excited for you! Just accept that you will be a nervous wreck, and then let it go and enjoy the whole experience. :)

  3. There's nothing like imminent publication to make those insecurities rise... best of luck, I'm sure the book will fly!

  4. Enjoy your day and try not to stress...too much anyway. ;)

  5. Wow, congrats on the book! I could see why the eve of a book launch would be the perfect time for a little IWSG empathy. Just remember not to stress over those things you don't have any direct control over. Good luck to you!

J.W. Alden, stopping by for IWSG

  6. Your book will do fine, Julie. Glad you're just going to enjoy the moment! Congrats on tomorrow being the big day for you! Now take a deep breath and pop some champagne or something already! :)

  8. Congratulations to both you and Diane-- so nice to celebrate the successes. And thanks for helping out Alex this month.

  12. Worry gets to be a habit, doesn't it. Enjoy your moment, Julie. You deserve it.

  18. Hi from the IWSG. What an exciting and scary time. If you haven't arranged a blog tour, you should. That's the best way to get reviews to build your audience fast. Email me if you can't find a book blogger who can schedule you soon, and I'll give you a contact to get a list of book bloggers so you can start arranging your own. My blog partner, Paul R. Hewlett, did his own and did very well. Happy book release day!

  26. This guide seems pretty helpful. Thanks for the tips.

  27. Hi Julie

I didn't realize your book was coming out tomorrow.

I read your 'fears' at the top.
I don't think there is a person on Earth who doesn't have similar thoughts running around their head, so you aren't alone.

I was speaking to a friend earlier.
I asked her to attend a writing group that I go to once a month.
She basically said the same things.
"What if no one likes me writing?"
"What if I can't think of anything?"
Those are questions that only the future can answer.

I hope you get lots of reviews (hell, I hope I get lots of reviews).

    Congratulations on getting this far
Keep it up, be awesome, other good things

  28. Yay! Congrats! How exciting...and (I agree) nerve racking. I think we all feel the same way when we 'toss' our book out into the world as we hold our breath and cross our fingers. You will do great. I am sure everyone will love your story :) Best of luck!

  29. @Julie, thanks! And it's been fun to co-host but also busy, I don't know how Alex does it.

@LuAnn, thank you! And that's good advice, thanks!

    @IrishRedFox, I agree, and you're welcome.

@Daniel, thanks!! And I hope you get lots of reviews as well LOL.

@Heather, I hope so, thanks so much. :)

  30. Julie, congrats! How many of us can say that we have a book coming out tomorrow??? What an accomplishment! No matter how nervous you are you should be proud!

  31. Oh, Polar Night is coming out tomorrow?! Congrats! Wishing you lots of luck during its release tomorrow! :)

  32. I'll do a little 'release day happy dance' for you tomorrow. Enjoy the moment. You've earned it.

    ~VR Barkowski

  36. Wow, how awesome on your novel being published tomorrow!! Congratulations! :) Try to enjoy the wonderful experience and let go of all the 'what ifs' (so easy to say, so hard to do!)

    Congrats again! So exciting :)

  37. It's hard not to feel insecure once you have a book out. I'm sure the good words will outweigh any bad ones that might come.

Wishing Diane success with her new book.

  38. Congratulations on Polar Night.

    Way to go, Diane!
