Goodreads

"If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot." ~ Stephen King

I've been taking Mr. King's advice to heart lately, and focusing on reading more. This is not a hardship by any means, as I have always been a bookworm and I love to read, but for various reasons I haven't spent enough time doing it in recent years. It's great getting back in the habit, and to always have a book on my end table and on my nightstand.

I joined Goodreads at the beginning of this year but, as is typical for me, I didn't do much with the site beyond creating an account. As I've been reading more though, I've returned to the site, and am starting to become quite addicted to it. I've already discovered some great new (to me, at least) authors and books, and it's fun to hook-up with others and see what they are reading.

I've also been happy to see that several of the bloggers I visit are Goodreads Authors. Three of these authors have books that will be published this year, and it was fun to add their upcoming books to my "to-read" list. If you don't already follow Samantha Sotto-Yambao, Jennifer Hillier, and Talli Roland, I would highly recommend these blogs/authors. I can't wait to read their books!

If you're on Goodreads, (or even if you're not!) you can find me here. I'd love to connect there and see what everyone is reading.

  1. I did the same thing. I signed up for a Goodreads account and then pretty much neglected it. I haven't had time to get more involved yet, but I will eventually. Once things calm down a bit. And I'm hoping to have more days dedicated to reading this summer. Right now it seems all my pleasure reading gets shoved to the last thirty minutes of the day, and that's not good.

  2. I love Goodreads. Even if I don't enjoy the books others recommend, I still get a kick out of seeing what everyone is talking about. :)

  5. Most interesting, is Goodreads a site or a bookshop? I haven't heard of it before.

  6. @LG, I know what you mean, that's exactly what happened to me as far as pleasure reading. I hope I am able to keep up with it now. If you get involved in the site let me know, I'd love to hook up there.

@Michelle, I totally agree! And I got one of my recommendations from seeing your books, now I'm blank on the name LOL, but I have it in my to read list. :)

@Michelle, oh, I will, let me know if you get into the site so we can hook up there.

@Better Is Possible, thanks, I'm so glad to be your friend there as well. And I completely agree with your comments, it is a treat.

@Tara, you're welcome, thanks for reading!

    @Yvonne, it's just a site, not a shop, and it's free to join. It's a fun site!

  7. I love Goodreads. I did the same thing at first. I joined the site and poked around for awhile. I've been on there more often this year, especially after signing up for the 2011 reading challenge. With the site I like how I can prioritize my to read list. I also like how they note a numeric a book is within a series, and have pages for series. I need to keep checking which book is next for the Foreigner series. Then I can go to the library website to see which branch has the next book.

  8. I also signed up for Goodreads and then never did anything with it! I will have to take your advice and hop on over and check it out. By the way I follow two of the authors you mentioned and I too am looking forward to reading their books.

  9. @Claire, I didn't even realize we could do things like prioritize the read list. I'm still working my way around the site, so that's good to know. It seems to get more addicting each time I am there! Glad we could connect there too.

@Jennifer, I hope you will like it too. It's funny how many of us signed up and then didn't do anything else! It's fun to have these books to look forward to from the bloggers, I hope to discover more there.

  10. Guilty as charged: signed up and then neglected my account. I like the idea, but I can't seem to get round to posting reviews, or even posting most of the books I've read.

I've added you as a friend on Goodreads now.
I'm thinking I might use it more if I meet more of my blogging friends there. :-)

  12. @KC, thanks for adding me as a friend. That's one of the reasons I started getting more interested in the site, it was great to see some of my blogging buddies on there.

@Julie, I know, I'm anxious to read Talli's books too, I love her blog.
