O is for Otters

Source: Wikimedia Commons
If you are familiar with my blog, you know that I am an animal lover. So learning about Alaska was fun for me, because the state is home to 90 species of mammals. Among these are otters, both sea otters and river otters.

I really don't have anything else to write about the otters, as I chose them for my "O" word for one reason only. I think they are absolutely adorable! Can it even be argued? :D

If you're still not convinced, I offer this pic of two otters holding hands.

O turned out to be a hard letter for me this year, but the otters came through. :D

My A-Z theme of Alaska is inspired by my debut novel, Polar Night, which is set in Fairbanks and the Alaskan Arctic. Click here for all the info on the book.

  8. Otters are definitely adorable. We have a nature park nearby that is home to several otters (rescued). I could stand and watch them all day.

    Great choice for "O".

    @Nick, LOL, they do seem like little stuffed animals.

  12. I don't understand how people can hunt beautiful creatures like these for their skins to make coats. It's horrific.

  13. I love watching the otters at the zoo- they are so playful and cute. One of my dream vacations would be to take an educational cruise to Alaska and study the animal life.

  14. @Emily, :)

    @Elizabeth, at this point in the alphabet, it's nice when words aren't needed!

  17. These pics are so adorable!!

    I am anti-fur. I saw a terrifying video of baby seals being clubbed to death and it tore out my heart. Once you see something like that it stays with you forever.

  18. @Johanna, made mine too when I found it.

    @Tim, I don't think we have any at our zoo. I'd so love to see them in the wild.

    @mymy, I agree!

    @Isis, oh, I can imagine that video was horrible and upsetting. I totally agree with you.

    @SK, so far it's unanimous. :D

    @Cathrina, LOL yeah I'd love to have one in my bathtub but something tells me it wouldn't work out too well.

    @Mary, how cool! It's funny because they seem almost like the size of a cat in pics but obviously not.

    @lizy, I know, they are just too precious and funny the way they float around on their backs.

  42. Hi Julie .. presumably you've read the book "Ring of Bright Water" and perhaps seen the film?

    Gavin Maxwell's book ... I saw a clip of him on tv in the last day or two ... and the details stuck - as I've never read the book ..
