N is for Nate

"Thousands of years ago, cats were worshiped as gods. Cats have never forgotten this." ~ Anonymous

It's been a hectic weekend here, so I'm a little late with my N post. I'm glad we normally skip Sundays so I can catch up quickly.

Since Clancy had his C post, I can't leave my cat Nate out. My choice for N was an easy one.

I've had Nate for a little over three years now. I originally planned to name him Jack, but when I saw him at the shelter, the little index card taped to his cage said Nate. I thought the name fit him, so Nate he remained.

This is baby Nate right after he came home. According to the vet's best guess, he was about four months old at the time.

Nate settled in to his new home quickly, and wasted no time exploring everything, and claiming the place as his own.

Unfortunately, as Nate grew older, he had a tendency to have too much to drink, and he could never hold his liquor.

In all seriousness, my pets have never had alcohol, so I have no idea why Nate looks completely sloshed here. It's possible he got carried away with his catnip toys.

Nate sees himself as the head of our household, and his favorite place to relax is on top of the kitchen cabinets. He loves jumping up there and looking down on Clancy and me, surveying his domain before he goes to sleep.

When Nate comes down from his perch, he is very good at keeping Clancy in line.

I'm not sure why, since Clancy is easily three times Nate's size, but Nate rules the roost.

Nate is the third cat I've had and, like my first two, he's a gem. He may keep busy maintaining control of our house but, like all cats, he knows how to relax and make himself comfortable.

"A cat pours his body on the floor like water. It is restful just to see him." ~ William Lyon Phelps

I hope everyone has been having a great weekend!

  1. Aww, sweet post about your cat. They do have a tendency to look sloshed in some pictures with some of their facial expressions.

One of my cats does like beer, so we have to watch out for him when we are having any. He simply helped himself one day when his previous owner (grandfather-in-law) left a beer untended for a few minutes.

  3. When our cat Boo died two years ago, I decided to take a kitty break. Boo was...well...she was high maintenance and I needed a rest.
Then my daughter moved back home with two cats. One is living with my son, but the other is here. I guess we're just meant to have a cat.

  4. Nate is adorable! I have two: Luna and Mooshu. A few years ago I had a roommate that had an 80 pound pit bull and he was absolutely terrified of Mooshu. It was crazy but I guess it showed who ruled the roost, my little Siamese!!

Love the blog - found it through A-Z challenge. I am also taking part. "N" was a crazy one for me - hehe!

    Looking forward to more posts!

  7. I adore cats. I used to have one, she was 14 yrs when I had to part with her. The last four yrs of her life she was diabetic and I had to give her 2 shots of insulin a day, she had a good life but had gall stones come the end and the vet said she had had enough, I was heartbroken.

Loved your post the pictures were wonderful/

  8. Nate is precious! I have never seen a kitty sleep on top of the kitchen cabinets before! How does he get up there?
Cody is the same about "ruling"....Dakota is triple his size and Cody is the one who calls the shots!

I love the quotes on cats. :)

  14. @Claire, that's so funny about one of your cats liking beer. My parents had a dog who loved beer, they have a funny picture of her licking a beer bottle like she was trying to get every drop. :D

    @Carrie, thanks!

@Laura, it does sound like you are meant to have a cat, how sweet.

@BREA, thanks, it's great to meet you! That's funny about the pit bull, I guess cats have a way of scaring the heck out of dogs, so funny.

@Empty Nest Insider, thanks so much!

@Melissa, Addison is a great name for a cat, how cute. LOL about the worshiping. :D

@Yvonne, oh, I had a diabetic kitty too. His name was Thomas and he was diabetic for the last 5 years of his life. The same happened with him, eventually his little body had just had enough. I was heartbroken too, I know just what you mean.

@Caren, I guess cats are always ruling the roost, the poor dogs don't stand a chance. Nate jumps on a counter, then the refrigerator, then to the top of the cabinet. It's like he figured out his own step ladder, he loves jumping up there.

@Misha, I agree, fascinating is a good word for cats!

@Monica, thanks for the link to your blog, it's great to meet you! Your cats sound adorable. :)

@Michelle, thanks so much, I love Peter the High King, how funny, and perfect for a cat.

    @Talli, thanks! :)

@Huntress, I agree, I can't believe how many blogs I've discovered through the Challenge, so glad I signed up for it. Thanks so much, great to meet you!

  15. Nate is so handsome! I have two cats, a boy named Loki and a girl named Jade. Jade is the supreme Goddess of the house. She convinces Loki to do the mischief while she rolls around on the floor looking adorable. Poor Loki is the one to get caught red-pawed. ;)

  16. @Carmen, thanks! I will pass your compliment on to Nate, I'm sure he will agree. :D Your cats sound adorable, how funny that Jade is so sneaky. Poor Loki! :D
