Re-Introducing Myself

Today is the day for the Re-Introduce Myself fest! Hosted by Stephen Tremp, Mark Koopmans, Elise Fallson, and C.M. Brown, this fest is a chance to get to know members of the ever-expanding blogging community better. All we have to do is share something about ourselves. Here goes!

I'm a sports fanatic even though I am the world's worst athlete. I can't play sports to save my life, but I love to watch them. I love football (college and  the NFL), college basketball, and baseball. Right now I'm enjoying cheering for the OSU Buckeyes basketball team and anxious for the return of the Cincinnati Reds in April. I love having a sport for every season of the year.

I'm also a total tv junkie and I'm a huge fan of (some may say obsessed with) Game of Thrones. Ever since I saw this promo for S3 I am counting the days until March 31. This in spite of the fact that I've read the books and probably know everything that is going to happen. I can't deny I may in fact be a little bit obsessed.

As this blogfest is intended to be "quick and fun," I'm going to leave it at that. And I'm looking forward to hopping around and getting to know more about my fellow bloggers!

Happy Monday to all. Hope the week ahead is a good one. :)

  1. I'm no good at sports either but definitely a big fan. And I favor college basketball over the pros as well. it's just more exciting.

  2. I'm not an athlete by any stretch of the imagination, but I enjoy baseball and cheering on the Rays.

The way you feel about Game of Thrones is the way I feel about The Walking Dead - cannot wait for February! :)

  3. I am a good swimmer. Very rare in a fire dragon. :) I must confess I watch football because of the tackling but I don't understand it fully. I like baseball because my grandfather was like its greatest fan. Basketball not so much. Anyway, nice to meet you again, Julie!

  4. Oh, I can't wait for GOT to start back up! March can't come fast enough. Great to re-meet you Julie (:

  6. High Five to the fellow Game of Thrones fan.

Did you see the article on io9 about all the theories out there? I read a few of them. I particularly enjoyed the one about Coldhands.

  7. @Alex, yeah, I've never been able to get into the NBA. Possibly because I've never lived anywhere that had a team, but even if I did I think I would like college better.

@Madeline, oh, I hear so much about Walking Dead! I wish I had watched it from the beginning, now I feel like I'm too late to catch up.

@Al, LOL, I've never known a fire dragon who liked to swim. My grandpa loved baseball too, that sport seems to be the one that really gets passed down among families.

@Elise, yay for another GoT fan! :0

@Hilary, oh, you must have had an amazing summer there with the Olympics! I can only imagine how exciting it must have been to be in England while that was going on.

@Michael, oh I didn't, now you have me curious. I have to go check that out.

  8. @Juliet, I'm sorry I missed your comment earlier. Thanks for coming by and for sharing your link!

  9. I have never watched or read GoT. *ducks head*
You are definitely a sports fan! :)

  10. Growing up in the tri-state, I loved the days of The Big Red Machine. I'm not much of a baseball lover, these, days, but really liked it back then :)

I've yet to get into Game of Thrones, but have heard nothing but great things about it.

  11. What a fun blogfest! Love learning new stuff about everyone!

  12. Don't hate me but I've never seen Game of Thrones. We never have time for TV and are so far behind on pop culture.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm also a TV addict, and Game of Thrones is high on my list. Do you ever watch The Middle on Wednesday nights? I think you would get a kick out of the daughter Sue Heck who tries out for every team, and never makes it. I can relate a lot to her. Julie

  14. Nice to re-meetcha!

I grew up in Baltimore as a huge Orioles and Colts fan, but then we moved to Atlanta in '71. In those days, the Braves and Falcons were so bad, the joke around here was if you left a couple of tickets on the dashboard of your car, somebody might break into your car to leave you two more. Or if you called the stadium to ask what time the game was, they'd ask you what time you could be there.

    ReplyDelete
  15. @Laura, don't worry, I won't throw anything at you LOL.

@Mark, oh, I grew up during the Big Red Machine years too. It's a shame the team has never been as good since LOL.

@Rebecca, it is fun, I totally agree.

    @SP, LOL, I don't hate you! :D

@Julie, oh no, I've never watched The Middle. Now you have me curious, I could definitely relate to that character LOL.

@Susan, LOL, that's similar to jokes around here about the Reds and the Bengals. We have definitely had our share of bleak years.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ooh I haven't seen Game of Thrones but I hear such good things about it!

    ReplyDelete
  17. @Vikki, I would definitely recommend it! :)

  18. I'm not sport-inclined AT ALL. I don't play any sport and don't follow it either...
Well, my hubby more than makes up for that... he knows something about every popular sport.
And I'm not much of a tele person either...

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Michelle, I am kind of surprised how much I love sports since I am so terrible at playing them, maybe it's just always wishful thinking that I could play myself LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wow, you would fit right in at our house except for the Ohio State thing. PSU fans and alumni all around this homestead.
Can't wait until S3 of Thrones too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Susan, oh, how fun! We would just have to avoid each other when OSU plays PSU. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. My sister lives in Columbus OH, so she keeps me apprised of OSU.

Love the preview of G of Thrones.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I just got hooked on GoT last season and I am anxiously awaiting its return. I loved the Reds when I lived there, back in their heyday of the early 70's. Now I'm a Giants girl at heart, though the Mariners have a small spot, too. Nice to know more about you, Julie!

    ReplyDelete
  24. HI, Julie,

I REALLY need to get into GAME OF THRONES. I was like that wilt the Harry Potter books ... obsessed for over a decade. But now that it is over I rarely think about my wonderful Hogwarts friends .... unless I am at Wizarding World in Orlando, of course. Then the obsession begins again. LOL.

It is so great reading about new blogger friends...

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Susan, oh, Columbus is so nuts for OSU LOL. I love it but if I weren't a fan I'd probably hate it there.

@Sherry, nice to meet you too, always great to meet another Buckeye fan!

@Nancy, oh, I was ready to cry when the Giants beat the Reds last year LOL. But I'm hoping the Niners win this weekend, I'll be rooting for them.

@Michael, I totally loved Harry Potter too! I was so sad when I finished the last book, I honestly didn't want the series to end. I've never been to Orlando, I'm sure it's fun there. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm waiting for my season 2 dvds to arrive and am trying to hear nothing about it. Although, I read all the books, so I probably already know.

My nephew is about to graduate from Ohio State.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I can't play sport either, but I don't watch it - except when my kids are participating. It's nice to meet you. I did the blog fest too, linked mine to my name.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sometimes it's fun to watch TV versions of things we love even though we know the story to see how they handled it! I'm sure Game of Thrones is awesome. It was a bit nerveracking watching the Terry Pratchett adapations a few years ago because he's my fave author. Not as good as the books, but they were fun!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yep, we love our football and other television obsessions.

I still haven't seen the second season of GOT. I have no cable. You should pity me. :P

    ReplyDelete
  30. I was always the last one to be picked for a team, but I enjoy football. Oh my goodness, I'm so excited about the next season of GoT!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi Julie. I also live in Reds country but I'm true to my Boston roots and love my Red Sox. For college sports, it's the UC Bearcats for me.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nice to get to know more about you! I love Game of Thrones too. I can't wait for the next season to start.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm no good at any sports. I've not read Game of Thrones or watched it. I may have to. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. HUGE sports fan here as well...though I follow mostly college. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming baseball season!

My wife just bought the first Game of Thrones book on Kindle. I'm wondering if its as good as the hype?

So nice to be re-introduced to you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm not so big on sports, but live one of the biggest sports buffs there is. Have your book cover up today. I couldn't post on Friday, so missed the deadline.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Nice to re-meet you. I so love Game of Thrones. I watched the first episode right after season 2 ended, and just watched both seasons in like 2 weeks. I just downloaded the first book and hope to get it started soon.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey, it's the famous Julie Flanders! I'm so happy to finally meet you! I've been seeing your cover for Polar Night everywhere, which by the way, I love! Here's wishing you tons of success and many more great ideas! I look forward to learning more about you and Polar Night. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I can't say I share your enthusiasm for sports (other than the occasional game of hockey--go Canucks!) or for GoT, but I am delighted to congratulate you on your debut novel, Polar Night!

    ReplyDelete
  39. i'm a live sports girl, i just can't get into it on tv...don't shoot me, don't shoot me!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I only just saw s1 of GoT, and haven't yet got through s2, but I do love it. I've only read up to book 3 I believe. It's been so long I've forgotten. :P

    ReplyDelete
  41. I sometimes wish I was able to get into sports. Must be nice having a regular communal event to gather around.

I haven't dared get into Game of Thrones yet. I've been warned that any character I like will end up dying!

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Mary, yeah, you will know most of it but I think there are some changes. Congrats to your nephew!

@Rhonda, thanks, nice to meet you too!

@Nick, yeah, I do think books are almost always better than the adaptations, but I do love this one.

@LG, LOL, I do pity you. Although not really because I sometimes think I am nuts for paying for it LOL.

@Ciara, oh, I know all about being the last one picked for a team. Yay for another GoT fan! :)

@LD, hello, nice to meet you! Oh, I root for the Bearcats too, just as long as they aren't playing the Bucks. :)

@Christine, thanks, nice to re-meet you as well LOL. :)

@Krista, I would definitely recommend it!

@DL, I really do think it's as good as the hype, I hope you will like it if you decide to read it!

@JL, oh, thanks! I will be there soon, thank you for sharing the cover!

@Michael, that's how I was with the first season, I watched the whole thing in less than a week. I hope you enjoy the books. :)

@Celeste, oh, thanks, I so appreciate that! It's so great to meet you as well, thank you!

@Kern, thank you, I appreciate it!

    @Tammy, lol, I promise I won't LOL.

@Trisha, I'm afraid I will forget by the time the next book finally comes out. That's the one problem for me, Martin takes so long in between books.

@Paul, LOL, that's definitely true. Martin has no qualms about killing characters.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I kept reading the Game of Thrones series even though I wanted to stop every time he killed off another major character. It does make it harder to care about the storyline, because I start to wonder if they're all just going to die at the end anyway, so why am I reading?

I haven't seen any of the TV series, but I'd like to. I'm waiting for the price to come down a bit, because I'm not sure I can handle seeing all that brutality visually, and I might end up watching only one episode.

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Azara, I know what you mean, I was very annoyed when my favorite character seemed to be killed off. I like the fact that no one is safe but then you are right about feeling like everyone will just die anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Always good to learn more about you and the rest of my blogging friends :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've been meaning to watch Game of Thrones but am hesitating bec. I know I'll be hooked!

  47. I'm not really good at sports either, but I enjoy playing them for fun. I'm not really into watching them, unless I'm watching it live. It was fun to get to know a bit more about you!

    ReplyDelete
  48. lots of fun sports teams here in cincy! yay julie!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I absolutely love Game of Thrones, I can't wait until the third season is out! I've only read the first book though; it took me quite a while to get through so I haven't started the next one yet! I will get to it eventually, though :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Carol, I agree, this has been a fun fest.

@nutschell, well if you're like me you will definitely end up hooked LOL.

@Shallee, thanks! I'm so bad at sports they're not fun for me to play but I still love to watch.

    @Tara, I agree! :)

@Laura, yay for another GoT fan! I am even more anxious for the third season now. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. A Russian character in your book, Polar Night. Have to buy it!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I am right there with you - I love the NFL (go Giants!!) and love Game of Thrones!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm a huge baseball fan. Go Yankees :D

My sister loves Game of Thrones too. Someday I'll get around to watching it!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love watching football the best of all sports, but I don't mind having various sports on as background noise.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I used to be athletic. And I only watch sports now if it's one of my teams (SD Chargers) or the Super Bowl. I've heard lots of good things about Game of Thrones, but haven't seen it yet. I'm currently obsessed with Sherlock Holmes, Elementary, and all things British Mystery, lol!

    ReplyDelete
  56. @loverofwords, oh, thanks, I hope you will like it!

@Elsie, yay, glad we like some of the same things. :)

@Samantha, I hope you like it if you end up watching it.

@Cherie, football is my favorite too.

@Gwen, I love British shows too, I've heard tons of good things about Sherlock.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'll have to buy Game of Thrones when the series comes out on DVD. I'm a TV fan too, but don't get time to do more than "watch at" the programs I love.

    ......dhole

    ReplyDelete
  58. I hate to admit that I have ZERO interest in sports. Zilch. Nada. I do have to feign a polite interest sometimes. :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. @Donna, I hope you will like the DVDs when you get them. :)

@Brinda, I would probably be better off if I had zero interest, because my times are almost always a disappointment and I end up swearing off sports every few months. It never lasts though LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm totally obsessed with Game of Thrones too! Can't wait for 3/31! :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. @Lisa, yay! I'm glad to find another GoT fan. We can be obsessed together LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Good to know more about you. Sports and TV. What else is there to say?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Nancy, LOL, that about covers it for me LOL. :)
