Celebrate the Small Things
This has been a lousy week for me and I can't deny I'm glad to see the end of it. My mom has been ill and that has been a stressful situation, but fortunately she is doing better now and we seemed to have turned a corner there. But it was simply one of those weeks where nothing seems to go right. The first full week of work after the holidays was not a good one and thanks to the crazy Polar Vortex we had temperatures that were far below what we are used to in Cincinnati.
The lousy week made me appreciate this Friday fest, because it was fun to get into the spirit of the hop and think of the things that did make me smile this week. So thanks as always to Vikki at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author for hosting this lovely way to end each week.
I'm celebrating a few things:
1. Socks.
I love warm, snuggly socks and this week I got what may be my favorite pair of socks ever. I'm actually sad that I will have to take them off this weekend to wash them. :D
2. One of my favorite shows returned for a new season. I love FX's Justified and the season premiere had everything I enjoy about the show.
3. Speaking of tv, it's no secret that I'm a total Game of Thrones geek. I am also in love with the FUNKO Game of Thrones figurines and have my very own little Jon Snow. So I was thrilled to learn that FUNKO is releasing a new set that will include Jon's wolf Ghost. Isn't he adorable? My new writing buddy.
4. Last but definitely not least, I got a huge thrill when I discovered that three of the libraries on Martha's Vineyard have The Ghosts of Aquinnah in their collections. I was even more thrilled to see that the copies are checked out. I hope word of mouth about the book will spread on the island. :)
So even though this was a week I'm glad to see end it turns out there were still some little things to celebrate. What are you celebrating this week?
Hope everyone has a great weekend ahead. :)

That's awesome the libraries have your book!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry it's been a rough week with your mother.
And I am just as excited about Justified!
Glad your mom's better. I'm another Justified fan. Luv it. Next week will be a better one for you, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteGood news that your mother is feeling better, and I hope she continues to mend.
ReplyDeleteAnd even I was wearing socks this week - big, fluffy purple socks. That's how cold I was here in FL. :)
And how awesome to see your books checked out of the libraries!
I have been thinking of you "up there" hoping you'd be keeping warm. As for socks, I no longer have any shame when it comes to keeping warm. I remember arriving in San Diego and lifting up my arms: "As God is my witness, I shall never be COLD again."
ReplyDeleteHa, never say never!!! Arkansas sucks in the winter, I found out.
Julie, best wishes. Stay warm (literally), stay cool (figuratively) and stay safe-always.
I'm glad your mom is feeling better. Hope next week will be a good one. Weeks like you just had seem to come and go. Take care and stay warm.
ReplyDelete@Alex, thanks about my mom. And yay for another Justified fan!
ReplyDelete@Marilyn, isn't Justified awesome? I just love it so much. Thank you!
@Madeline, thanks so much. I now want your fluffy purple socks LOL.

ReplyDeleteI want a Ghost figurine! That is so awesome!
As are the libraries that have included your book in their collections (plus knowing people have checked it out—so cool!).

Hi Julie,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to read that your mother has been ill. Thank goodness she is on the mend. That polar vortex has been unbelievable. In Britain, we have been impacted by it with storm after storm. Thankfully, without the bitter cold.
Socks are a darn good thing. That's fantastic to note that three of the libraries have your book. Perhaps, when the books get checked back in, you could check out your own book. LOL
I'm celebrating that a lousy week has had a good turn for you, Julie.
Have a lovely weekend and stay warm.
Gary :)
I love Ghost! I'm reading book five right now and loving it - of course.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to your mother for a speedy recovery.
I'm so sorry your mom has been under the weather, but glad she's doing better now.
ReplyDeleteAs for those socks, maybe you need to buy yourself a second pair, so you'll have a pair to wear while the other's in the wash.
Congrats on your book being a hit in the local libraries! That has GOT to make you feel good!
I'm glad to hear that your mother is doing better. Congrats on being checked out from the library.

So, so sorry you've had such a tough week, and that your mom's been ill on top of all that. Glad to see you were able to still spotlight a few happy things for this fest, though! What fantastic news about those libraries; hope the people who checked out your book end up seeking out Polar Night, too! :)

I am sorry it has been a rough week with your mother and glad you found some celebrations!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry your mother has been unwell! Hope she is much better soon. At times like that it is true that celebrating the small things is a good thing to do! x
ReplyDeleteA nice warm pair of socks is sometimes the best thing in the world. I always have cold feet, so good socks are a necessity in my world. And socks is one of my favorite words too!
