P is for Passion

"There is no PASSION to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living." ~ Nelson Mandela

Before I started writing regularly I felt as if I'd spent my whole life settling. While I was lucky to have a nice job, I'd never felt passionate about it. I envied people who seemed to feel that way about their careers. While I can't say writing is my career (yet!) I can now understand how it feels to have a passion for something. And there's no question it's a good feeling. :D

  1. I love my day job, but I don't have the overwhelming passion that I have for writing - it's a very special feeling.

  2. Interesting post Julie - writing has always been my passion and I worked in it for many years as a journalist. In some ways it killed my passion because writing and making money don't always mix. Now I have a dull office job I guess I can see writing as more of an escape

  6. Passion is important to have when you're doing something for a living. Sadly, not many people have jobs that they are passionate about. Writers are lucky. :)

  7. That's one of the reasons I left my last job--I settled for it and got way too comfortable and stayed too long. I thought it would be better to focus on my passion (writing!) for a while.

  9. I'm with you on this, Julie. I feel bad for people who don't have something they're passionate about.

  10. I find it sad when someone has not found a passion in something they do whether it be work, writing, art, building, helping others-we all need that passion to have the candle burning within us

  11. Thank you for reminding me of this! I'm about to tackle a writing assignment for an online publication that seems to be putting a lot of faith in my talent...and I'm feeling a bit terrified. This reminded me that I'm pursuing my passion and I should do so fearlessly!
