R is for Reborn

“I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is REBORN.” ~ Anne Frank

While I certainly can't imagine the horrors Anne Frank wanted to "shake off" when writing, I can relate to the feeling of freedom and excitement that comes with it. I can shake off boredom or lethargy and be transported to other times and other places simply by sitting down with my laptop. It's one of the greatest gifts writing has given me.

  2. Yes, writing makes an excellent escape. The source of the quote makes it very poignant.

Love the Anne Frank quote - but feel for anyone locked up so unfairly ..

  5. Beautiful Anne Frank quote. I often use those emotions that I feel in my writing.

  6. Lovely quote. And what a testament to writing that she could feel that way under such duress. As for me, both reading and writing work that way. Both are so restorative.

  7. Agreed! I love being able to escape through writing...although my family doesn't appreciate it quite as much. ;)

  9. I can shake off almost anything I remind myself of what I'm complaining about compared to what some, like Anne, have lived through.

Writing does come from and renew the soul.

  10. Writing is a great way to escape. Reading does that too. :)

  11. That is so true. I can enter a new world.

  12. I am not a writer but I can relate since I love creating cards. Anything creative, be it writing or painting, etc... can bring one to another world. Anne Frank is one of my favourites-I must have read her diary 5 times when in High School

  13. "Shake it off." Oops, I think Ms. Swift already sang that one. Seriously, I'm certain I wouldn't have been able to shake off the horror as Anne Frank did even though I often loose myself when I write.

  14. That does tell you just how cathartic writing can be if Anne Frank was able to escape her troubles through it.

  15. Hi human, Julie,

To immerse oneself within the magic of the written word can be a most powerful tonic.

  16. Writing is just about THE BEST escape! We can let our minds roam free and jot the most outlandish things down on paper.

  17. I saw Anne Frank's home in Amsterdam years ago. It's hard to believe how they all lived in such tiny quarters. She really had a gift. Excellent quote, Julie!

  18. I love that quote.
I also had the privilege of seeing Anne Frank's home in Amsterdam. That was many, many years ago, on an overseas visit.
